La Capri Da Alfio - Fougères

We had been expecting to eat at our hotel but discovered that this was not to be as the restaurant was not opened. Trying to find somewhere good to eat on a Saturday with little notice is often extremely difficult in France. After trying a number of restaurants we grudgingly booked at Alfio. Neither my husband nor myself expected very much of our anticipated meal The exterior of the restaurant is unattractive being plain and rectangular. We were some of the first people to arrive and were delighted to find that the interior of the restaurant was attractive and the serving staff friendly and professional. We were seated and given enough time to peruse the menu which was unusual and extensive. I ordered a Kir Royal and my husband the 'mocktail of the day.' both were delicious. We ordered a charcuterie dish to accompany our aperitifs and were amazed at both the quantity and quality. Despite a mammoth effort on our part we were unable to finish it. My husband ordered the fish risotto and I ordered a pizza Reine. I requested extra mushrooms and was surprised that the waitress looked a little shocked by this. When our main meals arrived I understood why because my pizza was piled high with an unnecessarily huge amount of mushrooms. At Alfio's they don't stint on their ingredients! And what ingredients! My pizza was perfect. The tomato base was real tomato not the paste so often used and the pizza was thin and crispy. My husband's risotto was rich and creamy and contained scallops and huge prawns. The wine, dessert was thoroughly enjoyable and despite the restaurant being full with diners the staff maintained their efficient and friendly service. Would we go again? We certainly would ... thank you Alfio's!

Near the town centre, it is very popular with the local population and booking is recommended at peak times. Good menu, particularly pizzas.

The Pizzas were great and there was alot of choice. The staff were very helpful. The menu was extensive and there were other choices other tha pizza/pasta

Excellent pizzas, I had a plate of five very small pizzas with salmon, accompanied by rocket and smoked salmon, it was good and ther wasn't too much bread. service was good, desserts were enourmous, I think they are best shared.

So glad we were in the mood for pizza because this is one place I would have been sad to miss! Interesting pizza combinations and a fabulous presentation! This is coming from a girl who really loves her pizza and has had it all over the world!
