Five of us wandered in three minutes before kitchen close and were welcomed to order food. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our soups and some local beers on tap. The staff were friendly and the ambiance is exactly what you’d expect, and hope for, from a mountain tavern. Not often a person to leave reviews but the previous few were not our experience at all. We’ll definitely be back when in Hobart!
Terrible. Went for lunch. I ordered of the specials menu, thought the chicken leek pie with mash and ' spinach leaves ' sounded nice. My thoughts were either a lovely slice or a freshly made by them pie lovely crisp flakey pastry and filling so scrumptious. with some lovely mash..buttery, creamy, lovely local potatoes hmmm NOT WHAT I RECEIVED! Horrible! my plate came out with a base of mashed potato that basically covered the whole plate and was 4cm high! on top of this was sitting a basic pie. The uncooked spinach leaves were placed under the pile of potato! The pie was soggy not one bit of it crisp. It had been heated in a microwave, then the soggy bottom had been put on wet mashed potatoes. If one could describe them as mashed potato. This pile of white stuff reminded me of a very cheap dehydrated mash powder. No butter salt or pepper, seemed as if the mess had been rehydrated with water that was it. It was not so wet it could not be piled up. The pie filling was OK. It sadly could NOT make up for the disaster this purportedly food was. I wish I had gone to the Bakery in the Paddock and got one of their lovely pies for a very normal price. I do not know why I did not send it back or complain I did let the people near me I had been chatting with know (they were locals and another couple of fellows about. they all had commented on the hugemungous volume of 'what was called mashed potato was and when I showed the pie to them along with the now I guess steamed by the **** onto spinach All were disgusted by how they ripped me off. Forget this place for meals. It is a tourist trap! at least for lunch during the week. Visit the bakery in the paddock you want a fresh tasty and crisp pie and other delights...or anywhere else even McDonalds would be better than this diabolical disgrace. I feel the publican may be more interested in her political aspirations than the running of the kitchen
We decided to head out and have Sunday lunch at the Ferntree tavern today after hearing it was lovely. From the moment we got there, it was not great. We had a booking, but it took about 5 minutes to get us a table even though it was not super busy. Then a young boy who worked there had to clean the table while we stood there as it had sticky liquid all over it. We ordered drinks and some lunch and it came out very promptly, which was great. We had a bit of a chuckle at my lunch which was listed on the menu as a pumpkin burger which ended up being a slice of pumpkin grilled in a pan, but we began to eat. Two bites in, I noticed my hubby (who ordered a chicken parmi) spit out his food (very unlike him as he eats anything) and he peeled back the topping to show me that his chicken was RAW, right through. Feeling quite ill my poor hubby sat there as I called over the young waiter who had cleaned the table. We told him and showed him and he quickly took it back into the kitchen apologising. My hubby said he didn 't want another one or anything else as he was feeling quite sick. We noticed that the boy told the lady in charge and she looked over at us but didn 't come over at all, which we thought was weird as it was clear she was in charge. The young boy then came over again and apologised and said we would not be charged for hubby 's lunch. I began to eat a little more of my 'burger ' and then found a long hair that was not mine in my lunch. At that point we decided to leave. We stood up at the bar area waiting to pay for my lunch and our drinks while some new people were coming in. The lady passed us but didn 't say anything and then as she came back past, she said you two just go, we stuffed up your lunch, we will just wipe it. No sorry or anything. So we just left quite gobsmacked! Her tone left us wondering if she was grumpy with us! Poor hubby is still feeling ill!
Having eaten at the Fern Tree Tavern a number of times over the past 12 months, we were disappointed with the “new menu”, particularly that there is no more Mountain Burger. The new menu is very disappointing and no longer good value for money.
