My family went multiple times while staying in Essex and we would recommend it without reservation to anyone in the area. It's kid friendly, but also has a modern, grown up vibe. On our first trip, we shared a lot of the small plates and had flights of beer. The staff provided really good recommendations for both the food and the drink pairings. I was a little hesitant on some of the items, but took a leap of faith that paid off as everything we tried was excellent. The Shishito Peppers, Green Tomato Carpaccio, and the Smoked Octopus were all favorites with the family. For our next trip, we went with the traditional dinners. The Smash Burger (with bacon) and jalapeño chips were amazing, though I would have paid extra for the house made fries. I also sampled the Shrimp and Grits and it's the best I've had outside of Savannah, GA. I went with some cocktails the Old Fashioned and the Comfortably Numb Too and both were on point. It was hot and rainy while we were in Vermont, so we didn't spend any time on the patio or Biergarten, but imagine both to be a good time when the weather cooperates. Highly recommended!
Black Flannel is our go to for almost every occasion. It has nice wide open floor plan with a cozy fireplace. The food is always exceptional, with a unique menu and seriously... the Oaxacan Graffiti is made with a house distilled Agave, as a nondrinker in general, it is one of the few alcoholic drinks I enjoy, and I appreciate that, we usually leave with a few 6 packs for my husband who thoroughly enjoys it, and a bottle of Agave to go for me! We bring clients for meetings, and have date nights here, and it's the perfect place for a staff party. It always impresses, and we leave smiling and satisfied, wanting more chicken and waffles. Glad to have them as our neighbors, looking forward to music on the back patio this spring!
Came for dinner on a Friday night. We had 3 different beers, all of which were very good. We also had charcuterie, flank steak, and donuts which were delicious. Shrimp and grits were too watery/soupy for my taste. Overall we had a good experience and plan to come back.
The beers here are more traditional, less experimental, really good. By far best burger in chittenden county. Burger was medium rare, incredibly juicy and seasoned well. Def going back to try the other dishes.
Great place to go for lunch or dinner. Large U bar area and good area for dining tables, plus outside patio area Biere Garden as well as some tables in front of entrance. The draft beer selection is extensive with great variety of traditional European style beers as well as American pale ales and NE IPAs. The food is always well done and high quality ingredients. Smash burger was delicious, the ratios are spot on, but occasionally make it a double patty with bacon.
