Kids In The Hall - Edmonton

Dropped into this cafe after taking a self directed tour around the City Hall. It was quiet when we were there but it was friendly, the staff were chatty but not overly so. The food and drinks were just right. The cheese scones were Delicious. Quirky in that you can see into the kitchen. Only sad we did not have time to go back for lunch during our stay - maybe next time!

The food was terrible! Took 45 minutes for a simple sandwich. The waitress left my food sitting in the back kitchen and I could see it. I had to ask her for my food! She finally brought it over. When I got my bill I was charged for a pop I didn't get and fries! Will never go back! Don't eat here. Tips to management: if you want to help kids get into better situations then show them the importance of hard work, better food prep, and time management. Waiting 45 mins for a sandwich when your restaurant was full of staff and only 3 customers? Unacceptable. Being charged for extra things? You didn't get? Ridiculous! And trust me, this happened to another group of customers as well. The sandwich was runny, and I really enjoyed my 3 trips to the bathroom later on that day! Also why was the Health Inspector there? I saw him after I ate! Argggg!

I had the peach salad and onion rings for lunch. Great portions for the price. Peach salad was equal to the calibre of food served at the higher end restaurants in Edmonton (Red Ox Inn, Canteen, etc). Will be going back often.Service was great too - all staff were friendly and eager.

I was offered coffee but I prefer a hot cup of tea. It was great they put the teabag in a little tea pot so I could enjoy more than one cup. My colleague had raved about the cinnamon buns so we were disappointed they didn't have any. I decided to try the breakfast sandwich with ham, egg, cheese, and tomato on an english muffin and hash browns. I liked the sandwich as it wasn't too salty like at other places and the potatoes were big chunks and not thin and fried. Certainly not expensive at $3.25 for the sandwich, $2.50 for potatoes, and $1.70 for my tea. The service was fine, and the food came out hot and not very long after ordered. I was glad to see a few more tables occupied throughout the morning.

I was taken to Kids in the Hall for lunch by a friend who shared the heartwarming story behind this charming little restaurant. Located inside Edmonton City Hall, Kids in the Hall employs youth, including some who have been involved with the streets, providing them with valuable skills, resume-building opportunities, and school credits. It's a fantastic project! The menu may be simple, but it offers good lunch options. The food was tasty, if not mind-blowing, which is to be expected in a quick cafeteria-style setting. The service by a young lady, who had apparently just started a few days ago, was excellent. I would definitely recommend it for a business lunch if you happen to be in the area.
