We were given the menu where we had to check the boxes...and were told which ones on the special menu were available. Some were dim sum choices and some were full dishes. ONe thing we were looking for was vegetables....and we love Gai Lan. We asked if we could order a plate of that and were referred to the beef w. Gai Lan dinner. When we asked if we could have just Gai Lan, our server added that to the Dim Sum menu (in pen)....but we were told it would be the same price as the Beef w. GaiLan dinner (22.95) which was pretty steep. So we decided to order the Beef w Gai Lan. The good news is that it was delicious. The GaiLan was perfectly steamed with none of the bitter taste that we occasionally experience at some restaurants. And it had a very nice ginger sauce. The beef was good and plentiful. Our other dishes from the dim sum menu were a tasty curry squid, lovely shrimp cakes w. chives, and a refreshing dessert of Mango Pudding. It was pricey...but we had enough to take home. It was worthy of 4.5 stars but because the food was so good, I've rounded it up to 5.
We were craving Chinese food, and this restaurant was one of better rated ones near our hotel, so we gave it a try. Upon entering they provided a checklist/menu to order, which is common for dim sum but maybe not for dinner. We ended up ordering the following: Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup Good. Generous portion size and well flavoured. Beef with Gai Lan Good. Tasted right. Gai Lan was not cut very well though. Very chunky portion sizes. Braised Tofu Hot Pot Not good. Didn’t actually come in a hot pot so it lacked flavour. Fried Green Beans with Minced Pork Good. Tasted fine but took a long time to be delivered. Almost finished everything else by the time we got it. Service was OK. It wad functional, not particularly helpful or friendly. For a Chinese/Cantonese restaurant, it had a remarkably small menu. Overall it was OK. Food was acceptable but not special. I was satisfied with our meal, but wouldn’t necessarily come back.
Enjoyed coming here on our trips to the city. However last night was a terrible experience, the worst meal ever. I honestly had a hard time to even try to eat. Is it even chicken they served? Three dishes all tasted the same and were a glossy sticky nightmare. Last time for me. Save yourself some money and go elsewhere!
I find that the staff are very rude. They think that they are exempt from service if they choose. The Dim Sum is acceptable but not the best. |Try the Golden Rice Bowl and you will experience great staff service. Golden Rice Bowl is the best in Edmonton. Jumbo has a big attitude. Hire some people that understand service as it should be at Jumbo and fire the lady that told me she did not care what I felt. I paid. I am the customer. You have your job because of me.
Best Chinese food in west edmonton you wouldn't be disappointed! So good from the sticky rice, black bean spare ribs and the dumplings! Will be visiting again
