Truly exemplary food, what an unexpected find. Went on a quiet Wednesday evening and expected good pub food, but what we had was very much michelin star quality. Service was very good but nicely relaxed. The Amouse Bouche was a Thai soup, with the most incredible flavour. The scallops starter was particularly good, the chateaubriand was perfection, easily some of the finest beef I've had. We were too full for deserts, but the coffee was excellent! Very much recommended, it's not cheap but it is excellent value.
A wonderful birthday celebration on a cold, wet and windy evening. A warm and welcoming freehouse, with the food of a Mayfair restaurant. The staff had personality, a sense of humour and a wonderful West Country accent! I'd recommend anyone staying in the local area, pay a visit to the Red Lion!
For a 50th birthday booked and could not have chosen better. we were in the davenport room, which was beautiful, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. the doors open at the river bank with magnificent views. we were at dinner, which was incredible and one of the best meals we had. we shared the wiltshire bark that was excellent. beautiful atmosphere and all waiting staff were helpful and friendly. starter and dessert were both excellent. the sommelier was very good to know wein and cars! the specially made birthday cake was presented beautifully at the right moment. the selection of drinks after dinner was recommended by barman. the breakfast was also excellent. the workers were all great zoe, martin and leo were all wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable. an unforgettable weekend and we would like to return.
There are around 700 red lion pubs in Great Britain, but if they want a real food look, we recommend to them the head for the in east chisenbury, wiltshire. when they do that they do not expect to have the pub to themselves, but because the secret (how good it is) spreads quickly, so that on the occasion of our visit there the place was revived during the Sunday lunch and dinner service. there are many reasons why the red lion should be so popular, but let us now stick to the food. the red lion is led by guy and britt manning, an anglo-American couple who met while both at thomas keller’s per se worked in new york. this was clearly a vintage period for per se, because it was when james scarett and sandia chang of bubbledogs were there (and also come together) like tom sellers of story. before per se worked guy with bruce poole at chez bruce. it is easy to see why this red lion is not like other red lions when it comes to eating. in and beyond the kitchen they have a philosophy that t
