The Lido Takeaway - Dublin

After reading the reviews, I was eager to visit this restaurant. While in town, I decided to try their fish and chips. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst meal I have ever had. The sausage was not what I expected and I was shocked to discover that the fish did not meet my expectations.

The restaurant could benefit from new ownership or staff, as the current employees are unfriendly and rude. There was a lack of proper customer service, with no greetings or helpful suggestions. Despite requesting three pieces of chicken, my friend was only offered two and then had to order an additional snack box to get more food. At 20 euros, it would have made more sense for the worker to recommend the box with four pieces instead. Unfortunately, the meal ended up in the bin due to dissatisfaction with the portion size and service. Thank you to Lido for always providing excellent service.

We had a great evening at the three arena, followed by a takeaway that we thought would be amazing based on the fantastic reviews. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. We ordered a dinner box, taco fries, and a cheeseburger. When we got back to our hotel, we realized that we had been given the smallest portion of chicken in the box, with no leg or breast included. It was a shame to be misled by the takeaway, charging for a dinner box only to receive a tiny piece of soggy chicken. The chips were decent, but my fiance generously shared his burger and taco fries with me because they weren't great. It seems like regular customers may be treated better, but we certainly were not. Overall, it was a huge letdown and I would not recommend this place if you are just passing through.

To start with, the price: €11 for fish and chips. While this might be reasonable if the food was good, unfortunately it was not. The chips were delicious, but the fish, which likely cost around €8, was encased in a heavy, doughy batter. In fact, we ended up throwing away at least a third of it.

Alright, so let's get one thing straight - Steve is frugal and didn't feel like splurging on hotel food. Also, if you're not satisfied with something that's not fresh, just return it and ask for something different. I just had chicken and chips and it was excellent. The chips were thick and vinegary, perfect for a chilly night. The Lido has been a staple in the community for a long time. If you're looking for a traditional Dublin chipper, this is the place to go. Otherwise, just stick to dining in your hotel.
