We stayed at Bülow Palais and naturally ate at Caroussel on the first night as some of our party had just arrived from far away places. We sat in an elegant courtyard under a glass dome, The food was very good. We had the five course menu. The mushroom essence served as amuse bouche left a good impression. The "faux gras", vegetarian foie gras, was a clever dish. And, the milk crisp/cracker in the dessert really stood out. The service was efficient. My only lament is although the food was very good, it was a little bit uninspiring. Perhaps, I had greater expectations knowing the Michelin star could offer more fireworks.
The anticipation was great, the reception and the best champagne, the menu card promising. the first surprise came at our request for a wine tasting. We were recommended to order a bottle of wine 0.375l to the main course, because "come 2 to 3 glass out!" the appetizer with paprika was in order, but why do you make the kartoffel so salty that the service staff must warn against it? the ayran foam was completely taste-free, or you did not perceive the taste thanks to paprika. the maibockessenz was then all the first class. the gelled essence was then very disappointing. almost a whole soup plate (!) full jelly with a few small (but good) pieces balik lachs, which unfortunately went down in all. the strawberries had to be searched with the lupe, so small cut they were and also the macadamia nuß was hardly found in the amount of jelly. also the bark would have been great, it would not have been clearly turned into a layer of large salt grains, the first bite was sobering. that the wine from the wine tasting was still cold (both from the refrigerator, temperature equal or lower than with the white wines served before), the thing did not make better. the cheese conclusion made a lack of the until then. the service powers did not know the cheese, the cheese were so cold that the soft cheese (although epoisse) could not be taken with the spoon out of the cup and even after warming in mouth was hardly to get from the spoon. the blue cheese was so cold that when cutting it was broken and the hard cheese it tasted nothing at all.
Located at the very good hotel the bülow palais, we were served in an elegant and pleasant room under a glass dome, adjacent to the proper restaurant premises. the service was polite and efficient.the food was very good or excellent. we were 2 persons and tried each one 5 different dishes out of the two different 7 dishes menu. although al the 7 dishes were great, if i have to mention some, the essence of venison soup and the "faux gras" (a vegetarian imitation of foie gras) were amongst the best ones.the wine list was ample and reasonably priced.the prices are not cheap (100 € per person plus drinks) but are reasonable for this kind of restaurant.i strongly recommend this very good (close to excellent) restaurant.
Benjamin biedlingmaier and his crew prepared us a fun evening. we remember a very good appearance in luxurious environment. I just need to say: every gang, really every single one, whether balik lachs, “Faux Gras”, goldforelle, aubergine, maibockessenz, rabbits, luma schwein, Spanish bark fillet and also the two desserts were a dense and there was nothing, but nothing to complain at all.Thank you!
