The restaurant offers decent pub food at a fair price, perfect for those looking for a quick meal. The chicken burger, fish and chips, and lager beer were the standout choices on the menu.
I had roast beef and family had lamb. Lamb and potatoes were over cooked. Beef wasn't the best either. Dessert was underwhelming. My family told me that they've changed ownership recently. Quality seemed to go downhill.
The George and Dragon is a well run ancient pub in this medieval bacj street in the historic old town of Sandwich. There is a low beamed bar with a log fire in winter, and a large restaurant area including a patio garden. There is always a warm atmosphere there. I have been a number of times over the years and always enjoyed it. On Sunday we arrived for Sunday lunch and found a shady table outside. The young friendly staff were prompt and we had a very tasty Sunday lunch for £14 for two courses not the cheapest but not bad and the food was up to the standard, especially the home made deserts. This is a great pub for a quiet or noisy drink with friends and for meals. Our Labrador was made very welcome and given water.
Great gastropub. We had a light Saturday lunch. I had Bream on crushed new potatoes with a pea puree which was a generous portion and delicious. My partner had a bacon macaroni cheese which she enjoyed. Dessert was a scrumptious brownie with ice cream. The pub is a nice old style building, and the restaurant is modern and clean with a view of the kitchen. Overall this was a great find off the beaten track in Sandwich. Well recommended.
