Today was my 2nd time coming here. First time was for dinner and the meal was just ok. Nothing to remember. Can't say I love the chips and salsa....chips have a somewhat stale taste to them. Today I came for lunch. I ordered a lunch special that was awful. My beans were gross, my chile relleno had a red sauce on it that literally tasted like tomato sauce from the can. The taco was plain unseasoned ground beef. My son had the rice and beans and did not want to eat them because the rice was burnt (literally burnt pieces in it). Throughout all this I kept feeling something on my arm....an ant. Then another one on the table and one getting into the salsa as we stood up to leave. I will not be back.
First off, I'm from Southern California and therefore I have different expectations when it comes to Mexican food. For the area, this seems like a pretty good Mexican restaurant, back in San Diego it would be a different rating, though. I've tried El Jimadors, Cancun and Don Jose's, so this rating is based on the Mexican restaurants that I've tried around the area. I ordered the Carne asada plate and the quality of the food was great. The lettuce looked fresh, the meat was tender and the rice and beans didn't taste like they were straight out of a can. Will definitely visit again, but not too often since it's a bit far from Fort Leonard Wood (25 min drive).
