No wine pairing was included. great service and expert sommelier extraordinary cocktails we sat at table 10 from the outdoor kitchen. Keep warm in a cooler evening, but you leave the smell of bbq. I guess we should have known better. because we were two, we have ordered almost every choice available 14 different dishes. Only 4 of the 14 dishes guaranteed 5 stars Most dishes were moderate and not as special as one would expect from such a renowned brand. We had just as good and better meals for less in many other restaurants in the Mendoza region.
I find it hard to believe that people complain about prices. Everything from the environment, decor, service, cocktails and quality of food was excellent. Unlike many places with tasting menus, 1884 do not skip portion sizes. I will definitely go back the next time I am in Mendoza
My husband and I travel for food, we have eaten in Odette, Burnt Ends, Don Julio, Zen, Gaggan to name some around the world. In 1884 was high on our list, so when we chose our honeymoon, this was a mandatory stop. Such a disappointment! Cold bread was served without oil or butter, the service was moderate, made a reservation inside but was shown sitting outside, set menu price was on our visit to the day before, it was 15% cheaper than per our waitress. But this was not communicated at all, simply on our bill without talking. When asked that inflation in Argentina is in the river, what we understand, but for a restaurant of this standard, maybe they could report to us on the day or day before the “current menu prices” and if we still confirm our reservation. Food was good, and we could taste his caliber and his creativity. But for this price do not meet expectations, go to La Azul or Martino Winery, for 1/4 included the price for better food / ambience paired wines unlike 1884. Sad to leave this review, but important to let fellow travelers know.
I’ve been planing a couples dove hunt and wine tour in Argentina for over a year. We planned for 8 couples. At the last minute we found out that one of the wives was advised not to fly by her doctor. We had an excellent time in Cordoba at Sierra Brave Lodge, dove hunting. Exceeded everyone’s expectations. Six of the remaining seven wives went to two different schools to give out school supplies and soccer balls to the poor village school children on our last day in Cordoba. Four of the six arrived in Mendoza with a stomach bug. Two of the six were were still in bed on the second night and could not attend as planned for our ‘Special Night Out’ in Mendoza. (My wife being one of them) Because of this, I was only given credit for $10,000 of my $16,000 reservation deposit! On top of that the food and service was only average, and the temperature in the restaurant had to be in the mid to upper 80’s. My next tour group will not visit this restaurant! Mac [hidden email]
Lovely garden setting. We started with pisco sours which were ok but not nearly as flavoursome as the last one we had in Buenos Aires. We were offered a delicious array of breads though none gluten free. We had advised that my partner is gluten free on booking and confirmed again on the day. The amuse Bouche was a pepper hummus (described by the waitress as chilli) but only offered to me and not to my partner as it was to be accompanied by bread. They could have brought her some cucumber or carrot sticks to eat with it but offered her nothing. Her starter was a peach and roasted pistachio salad. It looked good and tasted good but she nearly broke a tooth as they hadn’t removed all the pistachio shells. The steaks were delicious and tender.
