Joe Louis Southern Kitchen - Detroit

I came in town and wanted some breakfast. I was referred by a homie, so I went. Parking wasn 't so bad, and the cute little setup was impressive. The service was great, and my waiter Anthony was awesome. The ? 's were tasty, but my breakfast skillets wasn 't impressive. It was good but a little on the greasy side for me. I will definitely give them another try.

Terrible experience. We show up at 9:10. Staff told us it would be a 10 minute wait. We wait for 20 minutes and they would not let us sit even though half the restaurant was empty. Extremely rude service. Ended up getting take out and waited over an hour for a basic meal. Would not recommend. Go somewhere else.

When I tell you the time from parking to the finish of our meal was 40 minutes max I'm not over exaggerating. As soon as you enter you see portraits of Joe Louis. The decoration and ambiance are fantastic. The employees were nice and polite. We were seated right away. The waiter came over and we had our beverages within 5 minutes. I got the strawberry lemonade and it was delicious. It took us a minute to ponder over the menu which you had to scan a QR code to get it. I ordered knockout catfish acadian and he ordered shrimp and grits. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. When I tell you that catfish was fried to perfection and the shrimp were well seasoned and tender I mean it. The sauce on top of the rice was amazing. I ate every bit of my food and so did he. There are so many things I'd like to try on the menu like their red velvet waffles, which they were out of sadly and the turkey sausage gravy. I want to bring my sister's and friends

EXCELLENT! Fluffy delicious pancakes, the skillets, the omelettes…all really good. And the KEY LIME PANCAKES—fantastic!!! The chef was definitely cheffing back there. We were here from Texas and were so glad we came.

The food and service was excellent. The prices were not cheap but fair considering the quality of the food. I wasn't in love with with the way the place was designed but it was different, just not my type. My wife and I took our mothers there for breakfast and everybody was happy. Overall, it was great and I will definitely be back.
