The Swan - Claygate

I have eaten in the swans on numerous occasions and the standard of food deteriorates quickly. The menu is not very inspiring and the prices have risen for what is now very average pub grub. The staff has always been nice and friendly attentive, but the Fayre they serve leaves them off. The owner has definitely taken the ball out of his eye with this pub as he focuses on other top-class ventures.

I used to frequent The Swan often, but hadn't been there in a while until this past Sunday. I decided to bring my son and daughter-in-law, who was visiting from Taiwan, to The Swan as I always used to enjoy their Sunday roast and fish and chips, based on previous recommendations. However, I was disappointed this time as the food did not meet my expectations. The dessert options were limited and I did not enjoy the Sticky Toffee sponge as it was overly sweet.

Beautiful atmosphere and creative food options. Pleasantly quiet for lunch, but fits to a meeting meal.

We live locally and were really excited to come to the Swan as so many people recommended it in the neighbourhood. The Wheatshef is usually our go-to, but we gave Swan a try. Such a disappointment! Things started off nicely, but after we ordered and waited 45min+, the food never came! Not even the kids order (fish and chips). I asked the staff if they could check and 'they were plating it right up '. Once it came out, you could tell the pasta had been sitting out under the burner for quite some time and the beef roast was barely visible on my plate since the portion was EXTREMELY small. It 's like they didn 't have anything left and gave us the bottom of the roasting pan. Over 2 hours and £150 later, when I said something to the manager, we were offered a free pudding. This was a nice touch, but we decided to just leave as we had other things to do and it had already been so long. I 'm willing to try it again at another point and hope it 's a better experience. Just be a bit cautious and hopefully my experience was a fluke.
