I had salt beef on rye with pickles. I have learned that salt beef is what we call American corned beef. the sandwich was tasty, but rather substuffed by American standards. the roggenbrot was closer to the white bread with carraway seeds in it. the heap was ok, but weak. do not expect to see other Jewish menu items in NY style. the rest of the menu is more middle east than deli. if they are in a fix for corned beef while in Britain .read more
Now Gaby’s on Charing Cross Road is what they call an institution. It’s been there since the beginning of time as far as I know and yet somehow, shamefully I’d never been (though the journo is a veteran).
Gaby’s deli is a frequent hunt for actors and visitors from theatreland and it is so proud that all walls are covered with photos of the actors, signed posters from plays and cuts time pieces that fill the event place and especially its salted bark sandwich, I decided to make a proper cooked meal instead of going.
