Starting off with a complimentary glass of bubbly was a lovely touch, and the cocktails were absolutely delightful. On Thursday evenings, baked oysters are just $1, and they come with sixteen bricks of bread, perfect for soaking up all the delicious butter and leftover cheese. We shared a steak, roasted beets, and mac and cheese, and the portion sizes for the sides were generous, leaving us with plenty of leftovers. We're looking forward to our next visit, hopefully with enough room to enjoy dessert!
This review focuses primarily on the quality and taste of the food in relation to the price we paid. Let's begin with the oysters. They had an overwhelming amount of lime and seasoning, which completely masked the flavor of the oysters. On a positive note, the salad was delicious. However, my Old Fashioned and Manhattan were served without the large ice cube that should accompany them. The filets we ordered were poorly cut into uneven pieces, resulting in dry and tough texture. Without the addition of the compound butter, I doubt I would have been able to eat them. The service was excellent, but given the high-end prices, I expected a more refined gastronomic experience. We spent over $175 for two and won't be returning.
The chef's presentation was impressive, and the butcher provided excellent cuts of meat. The price relative to the quality was better than I anticipated. The use of locally sourced and seasonal ingredients adds a fresh flavor to the otherwise quaint, dressed-up Route 66 atmosphere. The kale salad, asparagus, Muenster mac and cheese, and raspberry crème brûlée were fantastic complements to the delicious main dishes.
