Safeway Liquor - Chewelah

This Safeway is the worst I've ever visited. The bathroom has a strong odor, which is quite unpleasant. Most of the staff are rude as well. The deli has been empty for years. Prices are too high, and the butcher doesn't seem to know what he's doing. The service is slow, and it feels like they're just dragging customers along. The only reason people shop here is because it's the only grocery store in a small town. That's not something to take pride in; if there were another option, this place would be in serious trouble.

They claim that masks are required, but that isn't true! We visited in the afternoon and noticed that very few people were wearing masks. When we went to pay, we asked the cashier if masks were necessary, and she responded curtly that if someone has a health condition, they are exempt. Shortly after, a woman without a mask came right up to us in line, so we asked her to maintain a distance of six feet—especially since she wasn't wearing a mask. She replied that she was in a logging truck and didn’t have anyone with her, which certainly didn't sound like a health issue. Then, the cashier from the next register came over and said that the woman should join her line, laughing along with her and making us feel foolish for mentioning the mask issue. The cashier we were with even started to chuckle at their comments. It’s ridiculous—if masks are required, then they should be enforced. It feels disrespectful to mock us or anyone else for bringing it up. Do they not have staff to enforce these rules? I would rather drive elsewhere to get my food.

The restaurant has four individuals in charge. When asked if they still need customers, the cashier mentioned that they do, but they can't enforce mask-wearing for those with health issues. However, they didn't mention the need for protective shields. It's not surprising that we're struggling to control COVID-19. It seems like Safeway believes that accommodating a few customers during the pandemic is worth the risk.

No masking of the enforced. I understand that people living in this area are polarized from some reason about the pandemic. the sad thing is that they only hurt themselves. in a load like to go safeway and see the people exposed at the summit of the pandemic is an absolute tragic, it is a service inability that safeway does to the community that it is to support. absolute shande at this place.
