restaurante Avila - Celestún

Uno de varios restaurantes donde uno puede comer después de ir a ver a los flamencos.Nos tocó un lado pero es un loquito que la atención fuera bueno así como los platillos (la mariscada con caracol está muy buena).Por qué se lo recomendó una persona en Mérida...creo que no desatino. Tómenlo como opción.

Seduced by waiters with promise of crabs and lobsters. Calm down, drink. Discovering that not only crabs and lobsters were not available, they did not even have avocado. Designed for crab Ceviche, which tasted from onion and salt, no crab taste and sauteed shrimp I believe frozen. Tip already added to the invoice. Avoid.

My family and I ate here today after a tour to see the flamingos. There are a few options like this restaurant along the beach but this was the closest one when we got back from the tour, plus the waiter sold us some beer and lent us a cooler with ice when we got there to take on the tour. Everything we tried was good. Our favorites were the fish ceviche and the breaded fillet of fish. We had a great relaxing afternoon with our feet in the sand and a Montejo in our hand.

The Avila is one of a number of small restaurants on the sandy beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. It makes a great place to sit a while and watch the water, but sadly the food isn't up to much. We had a variety of dishes which varied from average to truly awful the worst being a local blue crab cocktail. This was smothered in cheap tomato ketchup with, by volume, about twice as much ketchup as crab, meaning that you could hardly taste the crab at all. This is a shame as the crabs are presumably locally caught from the lagoon. Three plates of chips each contained around a dozen fries, yet cost as much each as a full portion elsewhere in the area. Service was slow, despite there being virtually no other customers. And they managed to get the bill completely wrong (in their favour of course) several times! Not recommended.
