I am Welsh the people she served were Spanish there was obviously a locals first policy in operation. I bought four drinks and four very small tapas very expensive and not value for money. Against my better judgement one of our party wanted to try another tapas so I returned to the bar. I was the only person at the bar, the same waitress ignored me for five minutes and chatted to a group of Spanish people at the bar, two men came into the bar she. Went to serve them as soon as they walked in. The men told her I was there before then, I walked out at this point. The toilets were not very clean.
Great service, literally the best service we received in the whole Spain. If you're lucky enough to be served by Moha (very friendly and unbelievably positive, open-minded bartender imaginable you won't be dissapointed. come visit this place. Highly recommended :
We waited 40 minutes for two tapas. The Bao with beef-cheek really tasted like pork and it was cold and the sangría was wine with soda. The only excuse they gave us was that they wanted to fire the cook.
This place always looked cool and quite popular, so we called in for a quick beer and some tapas. The service was poor the waitress surly, slow, and bored looking. The beers were fine, if over priced, but the tapas were really pretty poor. They looked reasonable, so we ordered one of each of three dishes, stuffed eggs, cod, and mussels. When they arrived they looked like they had been sitting there for a good few hours and the bowl of soft, stale crackers that accompanied them definitely had. They were tasty enough, but then came the bill ridiculously overpriced, and she had given us two portions of the egg when I had clearly asked (in Spanish) for one. So we ended up paying over €15 for two small beers and 3 tapas. There are many, many nicer places in Cartagena with better service, and offering much better value. Wouldn't return to this place, and wouldn't recommend it.
Ayre Gastro Bar is located in a prime spot to watch the Semana Santos pasos, so, arriving early to secure seats, we wined and dined here on several evenings. The bar had opened a week earlier, but the ambience, menu, service, food, etc. were excellent and what I would expect in a much more seasoned restaurant. The window bar on the side street is very popular and a great spot to interact with locals.
