If you are looking for an authentic experience, in a secluded and serene atmosphere with a panoramic view, nestled in the heart of a beautiful vineyard, with AMAZING cuisine at a fantastic price, with delicious wine and exclusive artisanal beers, surrounded...by unspoiled nature then TerraRossa is for you... THE LONG OF IT... Our good friends son started working in the kitchen of an incredible agriturismo in Caneva which is a hop, skip and a jump from where we live in Porcia, the place is called called TerraRossa... As I was saying, our friends wanted to make a surprise visit to see their son in action Because like most proud parents, when our children reach a certain age it is our privilege, let's just say--our duty as parents to show up at their place of work and embarrass them, which doesn't take much at that age as the very air we breath seems to annoy the hell out of them. With our reservation set, last Sunday the six of us jumped in two cars and headed into the Pordenone foothills and made the breathtaking drive. When we reached our destination we had to make one last jaunt as the TerraRossa farmhouse is located down a long driveway nestled in the heart of the Le Favole Estate Vineyard--Their wines are exceptional BTW! We were greeted by welcoming staff and shown to our table out on the deck/patio, I would describe the farmhouse as rustic modern from the farmhouse structure to the inside décor, the outdoor seating, to the beautiful dishware, every detail was meticulously thought out. I would also describe it as the quality of fine dining, but with the warm, comfortable feeling of hospitality. Before I go any further I want to ask you a question--Do you know what love is? Let me me explain it to you...Dining at an Agriturismo should make you feel special, like they are sharing the secrets of the universe with you...You should feel gratitude and respect, respect for all their labors. With every bite you should be able to taste all the sleepless nights and tireless hours of the day, you should taste every bit of love, sweat and tears that have gone into every ingredient they grew, protected, cultivated and nurtured. That's what love is. People who provide this kind of dining experience love what they do and they want every one else to feel it, to breath it, to see it and to taste it! Okay. Okay. I will get to the food part! For Antipasto or Starters they brought us local cheeses that were really delicious--As well as cured meats--which were so delicate and tender, the meats simply melted as soon as they touched your tongue, the platter was accompanied with warm, delicious little fried breads, which had obviously been made to order, they were so fresh and lovely. We also enjoyed this moist little pumpkin cake sitting in a pool of cheese fondue, it was garnished with slices of dried fig--I just loved this sweet and savory combination. Once again, most ingredients are produced and raised by TerraRossa. We did not follow the typical Italian meal sequence when dining out... Primi, then Secondi, then Contorni, etc.. We took a more casual approach to lunch, while some of us ordered secondi for a main meal I ordered a Primi dish...Gnocchetti Di Mais Antico Su Specchio Di Montasio Stravecchio E Gocce Di Rapa Now say that five times in a row as fast as you can, lol! In American Layman's terms...Corn gnocchi drizzled with beet puree, sitting in a pool of that delicious Montasio cheese fondue/sauce or whatever you want to call it. All I know is I just want to fall into it, like the kid in the Willy Wonka movie who falls into the chocolate milk river while trying to drink from it. I have to say it was probably in my top 10 of uniquely delicious dishes I have ever eaten abroad...The corn gnocchi was dense (not chewy) and pillowy at the same time. The fresh beet puree was genius in my book, the earthiness off the beet really complimented the sweetness of the corn gnocchi and the cheese sauce--WHOA!!! Soooo creamy and savory. It was also garnished with these very crispy, thin practically see through mais shavings or chips--for a lack of better term. A very unique dish that I will never forget. All the meals looked and tasted fantastic as we each tasted a bit of each others dish. On a sweet note: For dulce/desert I had the Crostata Al Lime which was the best lime tart I ever tasted. I think the shell was made with almond flour, all I know is it was mildly sweet and pressed with a perfect crumble when bitten, and instead of the citrus filling being like a curd, it was more like a firm mousse, it was lush and whipped and tart and sweet--Very refreshing. Lastly, I want to say EVERY detail at TerraRossa is deeply felt! I truly got that feeling from Chef Ivan as he came out to introduce himself. I come from the culinary industry and chefs of his caliber can really put on airs--to put it nicely, but Chef Ivan was so warm and approachable, you could see the twinkle of brilliance in his eyes and the tone of passion in his voice as he shared his story. It was a beautiful summer day with great friends, great food and wine! What more could one ask for! Besides the best Fricco in the world! What the Fricco! That's right, I almost forgot to tell you about the fricco...Sliced potatoes tossed with olive oil or lardo, cooked in a skillet with onions--Or not, and Montasio cheese. Chef Ivan serves his fricco with slices of grilled polenta and hand cut, wafer thin potato chips. So humble, yet so delicious. Which brings me back to the beginning...If you are looking for an authentic experience, in a secluded and serene atmosphere with AMAZING cuisine at a fantastic price, with delicious wine and exclusive artisanal beers (I suggest the red beer-it will blow your mind) with a panoramic view (castles and forest and a lagoon--oh my nestled in the heart of a beautiful vineyard, surrounded by unspoiled nature, then TerraRossa is for you. Bon Appetito, Tutti!
Location molto bella e curata. Suggestiva la veranda con vista sui vigneti. Menù interessante: ottimi -in particolare- la faraona in tre cotture ed il coniglio. Personale cortese.
