Unpretentious, family run Korean Restaurant. Fantastic and friendly customer service to go with well-crafted dishes. One of the best we have come across so far; after a long while. Must try their assorted Seafood Tofu Pancakes. House special Soon Tofu was absolutely delightful. Spirit warming for the biting chilly night.
Likely my first visit since I frequent K-Town for a spicy meal. Tofu Village is a warming take on a very meat flavoured style of cooking.Considering Koreatown is a mixed back of cash-only and card accepting establishments, I was greeted by a server who was quite sharp on telling me I can pay with card. Upon seating, the restaurant does not resonate any unique vibe. Quite minimal but keeps to the idea of having some menu items on the wall, handy if you're uncultured and wanting to try something. The space is a tad cramped when full but I would see as homely if it was a slow night. As most places here, a menu and a bottle of chilled water upon seating. Menu here is a bit smaller than other places but definitely focused on popular Korean fare. My choice of the evening, Korean BBQ pork with the Soon Tofu.Upon serving, I was greeted with the usual side dish selections. Great palette cleansers like bean sprouts, potatoes and beans. A stone bowl of purple rice with beans quite a great accent to the spicy and soft tofu. The BBQ pork was served sizzling on a plate. Though most places taste a bit tuned down on the spice, the pork was seasoned well with a nice punch. The tofu however, even mild, was quite a hit. Definitely handy to clear your sinuses so be prepared to order another bowl of rice to dilute the heat. I found the tofu to be a bit soft but makes a good stew when mixed with the purple rice and some pork. The staff were definitely busy so I can't fault them for not checking in on me. I was very fortunate enough to find a place in Koreatown to serve an lone diner on a busy night where all tables in every restaurant were filled, reserved or queued. Their hospitality is par with what's expected on a busy night.Generally with the cost of food at the time of this review, the portion size is a bit small compared to a decade back when I remember pork bone soup being about $10. Though I will have to return to try it and see if it lives up to the $20 price tag. Though the amount of food I received was enough for two, it was quite filling for an individual.Definitely a good tick in the box if you ever want to tour every shop in the enclave. If anything, I would say it's one of the first places to try.
Delicious food with plenty of vegetarian-friendly options. The service was quick, staff was friendly and answered some questions about the ingredients, and the music was mainstream K-pop K-drama :
Service was a bit slow. Was going to go to the other soon tofu place at the corner but they were really busy. Pricier place compared to other soon tofu place. Wasnt the greatest because their house special is basically just 1 shrimp 1 clam 5 small pieces of beef and the rest tofu. The meat hot plates and rice seem worth it. Paid 40ish for 2 people
