I had frequented The Pint off and on for just under three years with no issues. Then on Monday, June 5th, at 1:30pm, I came in for a pint, and went to the men's room first. An unidentified younger man followed me in there (an employee I assumed), confronted me and then blocked my passage, with the question: "Can I help you?". When I asked: "Help me with what?", the man became enraged, and with offensive animated profanity, directed me to leave and never return. I was polite, then I left, and I will not return. It could have been just a rough day, or maybe the crowd in that neighborhood, but regardless of the cause I am obligated to report it to the public. I caution anyone who frequents that area, or that establishment in particular: do not move to any private or remote area unescorted. Stay visible, and stay in the crowded areas.
I used to live in Edmonton where I used to visit their location on Jasper Ave quite a bit so a couple years ago when I saw The Pint was coming to Calgary on 17 Ave I was pretty stoked. I normally don't go to "chain" restaurants / pubs (think Shark Club, Joey, Canadian Brewhouse, Hudson's etc) but I really enjoy The Pint. First off, it's super spacious and you're almost always guaranteed a table whether it's downstairs, upstairs or the patio. Sometimes it's incredibly busy. Sometimes not so much. But one thing is consistent - the service. I have never had bad service here and I've been here probably 20 times since it opened. The servers are super friendly, the food is very good and a good selection for pub fair (I really like the Bison burger). They have a good selection of beer. Just overall, it's a nice, chill place to hang out or catch a game on TV. A good example of their customer service is Super Bowl 2014 - they were PACKED, we were lucky enough to have a table though most people had to stand. We ordered a platter of appetizers for our table, and it took about 30 minutes for it to come out (which we actually expected to take longer) but the server apologized when she brought it out and removed it from our bill even though we didn't complain. Another time my boyfriend drove me there when we were particularly hungover and deciding to get some take-out food to nurse our hangovers. I sat at the bar in my sweat pants, clearly suffering, and the bartender made a joke about me obviously having a rough night the night before. He gave me a complimentary Caesar on the while I waited for my take-out. I'm sure he probably paid out of his own pocket so I tipped him big. Probably some of the better service I have had on 17 Ave. The Pint has a special place in our hearts!
The food took an hour to get to our table. And wasn't good. The burgers were dry, and the vegetables in the salad were dried out from probably being cut ahead of time. The rice bowl was just steamed veg on rice, you had to put your own sauce on it... The washrooms were filthy... For such a good looking place & good location we were very disappointed.
First time at The Pint. No complaints about the service. Some of the best wings in town. What I mean by that is they are fresh, meaty and tasty. Forty flavours. Plus they have a great Thursday night special. Everything behind the bar is $4.50 and appetizers are half price. Can't beat that! And lots of TVs to watch the game.
