What a great find and one of North Calgary's best kept secrets! Fresh Warm loaf with a delicious homemade garlic butter to start the feast off! Then we ordered the Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and while we waited, Tony the owner came by to chat with us..very nice man! you don't see that kind of personal touch that often these days. Our server was Poppi and she was delightful and friendly! Adding to the event. The dinner was a large portion of spaghetti with a rich zesty homemade meat sauce...trust me it wont leave you wanting! We were so impressed that we decided to take in Amici's the very next night where I had the delicious Veal Cordon Bleu with a rich creamy butter like sauce and delicious vegetables ..my fiancee had the Spaghetti again and gave it 5 stars! Our server on night two was Holly who was just as bubbly and friendly ..my fiancee stated that if we ever move to Calgary it has to be near Amiche's so we can eat there often! -Hats off to a great restaurant and a team who really does friendly service right! Our compliments also to the chefs! your food is DELICIOUS! we will definitely be back! - Thanks again - Vince & Cath July 5-6 /2017
We are frequent customers and my family has been going here for years. Tony and his staff never disappoint. Great food, great prices, and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended!
We came to Amici for lunch with family members and we were looking forward to trying their Italian cuisine. Amici did not disappoint! The lasagna had a rich meat sauce with a pleasing bite to it. The Gi Gi fettuccine was outstanding, loaded with fresh vegetables and meat. Both the meat lovers pizza and cheese pizza had a slightly crispy crust on them and generous amounts of toppings. The gnocchi was wheat pasta, not potato pasta, but had the same delicious meat sauce as the lasagna - yummy! The restaurant and washrooms were clean, with nice decor and the atmosphere was welcoming. We will be returning here to try other dishes, for sure.
We had a three-generation family meal at Amici, taking advantage of their “2 for 1” Monday special on pizza. Six of us ordered four different combinations, plus wine and local craft beers from their fairly extensive menu. Given how busy the restaurant was, our drinks appeared promptly and out pizzas fairly quickly. Of course we shared our choices, and although I had ordered the seafood combo, I preferred the loaded vegetarian pizza. The beers were cold, the wine crisp, the conversation animated. We had to wait for our bill, because our server was just taking orders from a large table. Overall a positive experience.
There was a time a few years ago when I would have recommended this restaurant to everyone( see previous review) However, since that time, the food quality and service has gone from a favorite of ours to perhaps our least favorite place in the city. I've given them every opportunity and more chances than I should have in the hopes that maybe I just went there on an off night. However, the last 3 out of 4 times we have been there it has been absolutely terrible. Our most recent visit was a couple of weeks ago and after this one, I can say it was also our last visit!! Of our 4 recent visits, we ordered pasta the first time, both myself and husband were less than impressed with the watery sauces, and over cooked clumping pasta. The sauce didn't even stick to the the noodles. It was so bad that I asked to have it boxed up within the first few minutes, I took it home and added a few things to make it edible. It's sad when you pay for a meal and it's not even as good as what you can do at home!! This from a place that specializes in Italian!! Our next 3 visits, we had the pizza. Our first was on their 2 for 1 pizza night special, when we arrived it was fairly busy, so one could expect a longer wait time, however, waiting 2 plus hours was more than excessive, during that time, we hardly saw the waitress, it wasn't until we put on our jackets to leave after having sat there for 2 1/2 hours did she appear, she apologized repeatedly telling us our pizza would be out momentarily and told us that during service several staff had quit so they were short staffed in both kitchen and front of house. She offered us our pizza on the house and had it brought to us boxed to go. Given that the pizza was good and wanting to give them another opportunity, we did eventually go back and give them another chance. This time we decided to sit in the bar side. The pizza was great, it arrived within a reasonable amount of time and the service was good. So we did decide to go back again hoping that this would once again become our neighbourhood restaurant of choice. Our last time there, we went to celebrate my husband's birthday, we again decided to sit in the bar side, this time we again ordered the pizza! When we arrived, there were only about 4-5 tables of people, we placed our order nearly immediately and then the wait began! We were given our drinks and then ignored for at least an hour. I took out my phone to check the time and we had been waiting an hour and 20 minutes, shortly after, the server for the first time came and told us it should just be a few more minutes, well at the 2 hour mark our pizza finally arrived. The server in our time there, didn't even ask us if we would like another drink. She appeared to be too busy leaning against the bar chatting with regular customers sitting there then to actually provide any service. By the time our food arrived, there were only a handful of people left there. We got our pizza and about a minute later, she came and placed a to go pizza box on the corner of our table. We were eating our first slice of pizza! So that gave us the impression to eat quickly or box it up!! She still didn't offer us another beverage. We quickly ate another slice and then we boxed up our remainders and put our jackets on to leave. I mentioned to my husband about being thirsty and how for the entire time we were there, he wasn't even offered a 2nd beer! She must of heard this as when she returned to ask if we were ready for the bill, she then asked if we would like another drink, this was after being there 2 1/2 hours, when we had boxed our pizza and were sitting there with our coats on ready to leave!! When we left, we decided that this would be our last time going there, no more chances, the place we loved years ago isn't the same restaurant today!! I'm not sure if its new ownership, poor staffing or what the issue is, but one thing I am certain of is this place is no longer worth spending any money at. They have lost our loyalty and we will never return again!
