We visited Bryson City for the first time and, based on prior reviews, chose to have lunch at High Test Deli. Our meals and interactions with the incredibly friendly staff exceeded our expectations! Everyone there was welcoming and truly grateful for local support. The portion sizes were just right, and all of our dishes were delicious. We sampled several flavors of their milkshakes and couldn't pick a favorite. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area to stop by and enjoy their sandwiches during lunchtime!
The Cuban sandwich was tasty. The restaurant does have seating, but it's blocked off, so you can only get your food to go or sit at one of the three tables outside. When I inquired about the restroom, I was directed to another restaurant/bar down the street. It seems they are still using COVID as an excuse for this, even though the rest of the university is open for business. They’re happy to take your money but not allow you to use their facilities. I ended up making my own sandwich, and it was cold.
I arrived right as they were opening for the day and decided to try the Diesel half sandwich paired with the Butternut squash soup. It was one of the best takes on a BLT I've ever tasted! The soup was fantastic as well. I returned later to indulge in a Blueberry soft serve with a frozen Lemon white chocolate cookie sandwich, and it was just as amazing. It's easy to see why this place is considered legendary. The atmosphere and service were excellent. Be sure to stop by when you’re in Bryson City—you won’t regret it!
We had a sizable group with us and the weather was perfect for sitting outside at the tables. Our sandwiches were fresh and delicious. The service was adequate; it took a bit of time, but we enjoyed our experience overall.
