This time, there was a special Memorial Day menu consisting of brisket, pulled pork and sides. My date and I enjoyed it very much! The food and the service were great, and you can’t beat the views from the back porch!
The first thing you realize stepping onto The Galley's porch and looking at the Manhattan skyline is that you haven't left the city, but instead found a pleasant perch in New York's version of a New England shore town. The Galley‘s food is excellent. From the pulled pork sliders that are a main masquerading as an app, to the hamburger sized crabcake nestled in greens, to the Caprice sandwich, and the grilled Atlantic salmon freshness rules. Yes, there is a beef burger – it’s big and juicy and like all the sandwiches comes with homemade potato chips. And the strawberry and spinach salad is almost as much a dessert as it is a first course. Oh and the bartender makes a mean Mojito. Others have complained of slow service. And yes, just as the industry is experiencing a worker shortage, so is The Galley. But on the upside, this means you have more time to enjoy that view. (Full disclosure: I am a member of the CIYC and have eaten at the Galley since it opened in mid May.
I 've always wanted to go to City Island, a far-flung neighborhood of the Bronx that 's a schlep from most parts of the rest of the city, especially if you rely on public transport. But we had the opportunity to drive there, and decided to go to CIYC for dinner. The staff were wonderful and welcoming from the moment we called to make a reservation. One wasn 't needed, it turned out, but in booking it, we did secure a table with beautiful views of Pelham Bay, and the city on the horizon. The food was wonderful, and we 're happy we ordered the new Mac Cheese recipe the chef tried. We even learned a little about the local life from our server who was a proud clam digger . The restaurant is open to the public, attire is casual, and parking is available.
This is where you want to be. It's more like family!
I don 't think unfriendly would be accurate, but certainly inhospitable to transients. Called to ask about dinghy dock usage: no, we don 't really do that . Asked about transient mooring: Well, thunderstorms are forecast, and we have sailing school going on. Seriously????
