It was the only place I can think of where you could sit under taxidermy busts, listening to honky-tonk country music, eating surprisingly great pasta, and drinking the free beer you were awarded for wearing your cowboy hat. Sure, it was a needlessly “zany” place, but it worked because everything it did, it did well. But now! It’s a bar. It’s a fine bar, don’t get me wrong, but it is no longer the jewel of the Upper West Side. What was once a destination worth planning an evening around is now a spot to pop in and grab a quick beer before you get on the train.Four stars for cold beer, warm ambience, pinball machines. Two stars for what once was and what could have been.Three because I’m not a j and I don’t want them to like, go out of business or something.
When I walked in the place felt different than I remembered it and damn, food is no longer served here, which sucked because the place still has the name of a restaurant and I was craving spaghetti. But alas, the place has a very fun atmosphere. Cheapest beer? $6 PBR on draft. wow. Not that special. It was cowboy karaoke night and they had a really cool country band that played live as you sang to your favorite western tune. Now that's a cool niche. The band was really good. Pinbal machines in the back.
Great place but note the KITCHEN is CLOSED! No food so come for good drinks but not for fun food.
It's called spaghetti tavern but does not serve spaghetti. They should change their name immediately.
If you're in the mood for spaghetti and looking to add some pizzazz, why not eat it out of a paper bag? This place has such a fun vibe, and the homemade spaghetti never disappoints. Love the meatballs as well. The garlic bread is phenomenal and tastes delicious dipped in the meatball sauce (but it's not included in the meal and it's expensive! . Beyond the food, this place has a lot going for it: great service, an immaculate atmosphere for indoor or outdoor seating, and the best espresso martinis I've ever had.
