The only problem was that we were shown where to sit even though the restaurant wasn't busy. There was a varied menu from steaks to fish to pies. The food was well cooked but was a bit on the cold side. I had the chicken, leek and ham pie and the portion was quite large but the vegetables were cold. I didn't send it back because I was hungry. The chips could do with being changed as one portion of them was mainly small scrappy bits, however these were changed and that portion was much better. The pub wasn't very busy but it was a Thursday night and it is tucked away from the main road. We wouldn't have known it was there if someone hadnt told us. We would return but we are not from that area. All the staff were polite and yes I would recommend if near there.
For dinner in our planned Dalton restaurant, we couldn't get booked, so we came to our other first choice, The Brown Cow pub. It's not easy to find addresses given seem to vary, and our sat nav voice didn't help us. Ten minutes late, we were warmly greeted and taken upstairs to our table. Over a drink from the bar we chose from the good menu and we ate well. My wife said the chilli, her favourite, was one of the best she'd ever tasted, and my duck breast was perfect cooked through, not ****, yet delicious and tender. We don't visit Dalton often, but when we're here next we know where to eat! Meanwhile, we recommend The Brown Cow highly.
The food at this restaurant is amazing, with huge portions and a hardworking staff. When we arrived, we were informed that there may be a wait, but we didn't mind as we could see the staff working tirelessly. Our drinks arrived promptly, followed by our food after 45 minutes. Despite being told there would be a wait of around an hour, all the food was absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this fantastic pub/restaurant, although the chips could be improved slightly. Overall, our experience was outstanding. The staff, who mentioned they only had 2 chefs and 3 servers on duty, did an outstanding job handling the large number of customers. The food was really good and the value for money was great. We highly recommend visiting this beautiful place.
I have been eating here for a few years, the food which was once pretty good is now just adequate. Service is always good, the food is traditional English pub food and the place is pretty clean. Eating here once again in September my disappointment has grown to the extent I feel I must leave a review, the food quality has been decreasing to the point a peppercorn sauce is inedible and simply ground pepper in a bit of cream, garlic bread is simply cold soft baguette with melted butter and starters all frozen and cooked in a fryer. The impetus to this review however is hearing staff laughing about a colleague with disabilities who had left, in a completely unprofessional manner- I challenged them at the bar as hearing such words is disgusting. A serious overhaul by management is required as the brown cow is sinking fast
This was my first time visiting this restaurant and I had to inquire at the bar if they served food. The bartender informed me that the menus were located on the other side of the bar, then escorted us upstairs to the restaurant. It might be helpful to have a sign indicating that the restaurant is upstairs. Once we were seated, the food and drinks arrived promptly and we were pleasantly surprised by how exceptional the food was. The portions were very generous and the prices were reasonable, making it a great value. I would definitely return to this restaurant if I am ever in the area again.
