I have eaten there on countless previous occasions when staying there for business but this was my first time with my family as well. I would estimate more than 30 covers were served on the night of our visit, handled by one male and one female waiter. Both were attentive to our needs but did not deliver on the promises - we had to wait ages for a high chair to be delivered; the children's' meals were delivered on extremely hot plates and when side plates were requested to decant the food onto, they didn't arrive either. Children's' ice cream desserts were offered but not brought to the table and in the 3 hours it took to order and receive a 2-course menu, we eventually gave up on dessert because the children were tired. I can see from other similar reviews that I should expect a reply from the owner telling me that "no-one else complained" or that my "expectations are too high" but frankly his restaurant, like his hotel, are on the slide and rather than being in denial about it, he needs to act now to save his business.
The restaurant is connected to the hotel. Maybe the waiters and people in the kitchen had a to to do that night, but we waited for a loooong time to get our food - which was average, that is good, tasty - but made no lasting impression.
My family's favorite spot here in Rancho, the food is amazing and the prices are reasonable.
We had a meal here as we were staying in the hotel. On other evenings we thought that the food looked good so wanted to try it out. On arrival we were greeted by a frosty waitress as we had not made a reservation, however, the restaurant only had 4 other occupied tables, so I did not see why there was a problem. The second member of staff was very new and explained that they were very short staffed and apologised in advance. We acknowledged this and he provided us with menus. We had to wait 40 minutes before either staff member acknowledged us and took a drink or food order. Consequently our wine came with our main course rather than having a drink while waiting for our food. I made a mistake with my food order due to my poor understanding of the French menu, but that was not the fault of the restaurant. I ordered tuna steak and it was unexpectedly raw. I struggled to enjoy but it looked very good. My husbands food was good, he had the chicken burger. We did order another drink but this never arrived. We then waited a further 60 mins for them to clear our plates and take our desert order as well as us order our 2nd drink again. We had one cafe gourmand to share. Unfortunately the chocolate fondant was over cooked, but other than that the desert was fine. We felt very sorry for the new member of staff that was trying very hard but was having to deal with many complaints due to slow service and food mistakes. To be honest it was a real shame. The service could have been much better had the new staff member been supported properly with sufficient experienced staff. The hotel is lovely, it’s just a shame the restaurant does not offer a good standard. There are many wonderful restaurants in Barr that have excellent food and service for a good price so it is not worth eating here when our vacations are so short!
