Staff were all very nice and on hearing it was my birthday even sent out a birthday candle with desert which was a really nice thing to do! Felt special! Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. We had the potato pancake, ham cheese and pineapple pancakes and for desert fried banana with cinnamon pancakes with icecream! Nice atmosphere also in the heritage building in the heart of Ballarat!
Absolutely appalling service by the “supervisor” on duty over weekend. When challenged over the size of an entree meal which was charged incorrectly the supervisor- I am aware of her name but will only use her initial in case names aren’t allowed). Jon’s behaviour was abysmal- offered a $2 refund when I advised her that the meal was not that of an entree and said it was a kids meal which is what was ordered anyway) but changed an entree price anyway, I requested the managers details 1. Because we did not get what was ordered and then ultimately overcharged charged and 2. Her service alone was horrid. J proceeded to write the names of the managers on the back of my receipt, when we had an opinion on her attitude and her poor explanation of the stuff up which was their mistake, happy to own it if it was our parties) she grabbed the receipt from my hand, scrunched it into a ball and threw it into the bin. When I asked for the price difference she said “nope you get nothing now”, I asked for her name and she said “nope I don’t wear a name badge” and walked away. I retrieved my receipt myself from the bin, as she’d completely left the area. Approximately 20 minutes later I called the store to obtain the name of the worker to make a formal complaint- when she answered and i obtained her name, I began to ask for a time when management would be available, she sighed and hung up on me, I called back and she refused to answer. Another person from our party called and another young girl answered who was lovely and answered our very simple questions. Upon leaving the store the guests behind us approached us outside and said the girl’s behaviour was disgraceful and they were surprised that customers were spoken to and treated like that, so it wasn’t just us a group of 5) who only noticed it. I had spoken to 2 separate staff over this kids meal and received clarification BEFORE ordering the meal, and it wasn’t even the issue with the pricing or sizing in the end, it was the supervisors utter rudeness, her condescending tone, her clear lack of respect that she is representing someone’s business and then grabbing my receipt and screwing it up like a child after I had said I wanted my receipt and believe I’m entitled to a receipt, could be wrong) but worse is it didn’t end there, with her walking away, refusing to give her name so I could lodge a complaint over HER service but then to hang up on us when we spoke in a completely calm and respectful manner- no way to represent a business or to treat people really. Couldn’t fault the food or service prior to her) it’s such a shame a supervisor can behave in such a terrible and childish manner. I am certainly not a person who thinks “the customer is always right” nor am I one to usually challenge someone on their mistake but I do believe that regardless of whom you are you treat people with some kindness and respect and not speak down to people or treat them like they are stupid. So even though I was overcharged which she agreed with she then refused to refund the difference. She was so incredibly rude and I’m sure would have given the mangers only her side of the story knowing I’d be calling but I can assure management, her conduct is not what you’d want representing such a icon business and not only did our party notice her behaviour so did other customers.
It was a lovely little restaurant in the midst of town. Staff were friendly and helpful. Got a table without reservation and the service was very quick. Whilst it is a bit pricey for very simple dishes at times, I would recommend saving the dining experience for when you really can't be bothered to make dinner at home. It's has a nice homey feel to it.
This place is so expensive for what you get. The food is ok but stupidly expensive for what you get. For the price of a small pancake and a drink was a shock. There will definitely be no more family trips here because it would cost $150-$200 to feed the family. I’m happy to pay those prices for a decent meal but small pancakes in an average restaurant no way. Pancake seriously need to re think their prices for the average grub they serve up. The other downside to the place is there is no toilet access for people with mobility issues as you have to walk up flights of stairs to get to toilet. There is only one table available for those that can’t use stairs.
Went here on a date with my boyfriend today. Haven't been in ages and wanted to have a bit of a fancy lunch/late breakfast. The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Chocolate Jubilee and my boyfriend ordered the Tiramisu. For drinks I got an Iced Chocolate which to be honest wasn't the best but it was ok. My boyfriend got a Khaula Shake which was very nice though. Service was really good. My only complaint is that the large chess set that used to be there many years ago was no longer to be seen which was unfortunate. Apart from that it was a great experience. Very filling though.
