They cook their meats on a charcoal grill behind the checkout counter and you can taste it in their meats. Mhmmm finger licken good. Their fries are crunchy with great seasoning. It is a flash to the past retro feel....Alright Alright what are you waiting for, get a burger here.
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Not only is this an Austin staple but it did not disappoint after decades later! It's honestly a top notch burger joint! I ordered the regular burger with no onions and a side of fried onion rings. Wow, just wow! The freshness of the veggies to the soft and crispy meat patty.
We ended up at Top Notch tonight by complete happy accident. Oh my goooooodness! So so good! As some other reviews have mentioned, this is absolutely not your fancy burger spot and is more of a fast food spot and vibe, but with a much fresher, more delicious, less greasy, and top notch service along with it. We went around 6:30pm on a Sunday evening and from the moment we walked in, were greeted kindly, not rushed, and then friendly conversation with a smile was included during the ordering process which was (for whatever reason unexpected. The young man behind the counter seemed to truly enjoy his job and the quick but memorable interactions and I was immediately impressed. When my party sat down, we all had something nice to say about how great the young man behind the counter was when ordering ! The food came out quick and we were immediately beyond happy. We were thankful our original plan had been spoiled and that we ended up here. The burgers were so good. Not heavy. Not greasy. Fresh. Really great! I got the Top Pick and I would say the only complaint is that there was way too much sauce, which took away from the burger, but I devoured it like a champ regardless. My husband got the double patty option, my best friend got a regular bacon cheeseburger and we alllll got fries. I opted for the sweet potato fries, my fave. The fries weren 't anything amazing but the burger was so good that I wouldn 't have wanted or needed the fries to be anything more than they were. Our cashier/order takers name was Vitaly and I cannot give him enough praise. As someone in customer service, I pay close attention to experiences and he most certainly impressed all of us. We found out that he is already a manager, has worked there for a year and a half, and isn 't even 18 years old. Our take on this great kid: a Hard worker, provides great customer experiences, and just a great first impression. He told us about their Hot Rod show (and their chicken fingers and we will definitely be back : Thank you for such a fun evening and a great, quick, and easy and surprising dinner, Vitaly!
This was a fun retro, eat in the car experience. I got the cheeseburger meal. My cheeseburger was 10/10. It was fantastic. Great flavor. Fries were fine, nothing amazing but not bad at all. I heard the onion rings were great, I will try them next time. Coke products and perfectly crispy. Service was fast and friendly. I'll be back! I didn't take pics cause I was hungry and had my hands full eating in the car.
I don 't come here often due to the distance. But its definitely worth it when I do. This is I think, one of the older burger places in the area. Simple, old school atmosphere with older, but clean tables and booths. It has indoor dining, outdoor picnic tables and carhop spots (like the old A&W, etc with service at your car window. I prefer indoor dining as I like the A/C. The burgers are cooked on an open flame grill. The onion rings are hand battered. And although I didn 't get one today, I recall that the milk shakes are pretty good. This is a down homie type food experience. The burgers are thin. So if you 're a big eater, get a double patty. They have just a bit of a char grilled flavor. Don 't expect a Hopdoddy or fancy burger experience. Just a consistently good (not amazing burger. Fries were decent (ketchup goes well with them . I do like the onion rings, and love a little salt on them. Service was 5 star. Employees were congenial and hustled. Here, its about the whole experience. It does remind me a little of Storms burger place in Lampasas (which is a must try .
