Kai Lana Sushi - Atascadero

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the county for specialty rolls! It's as good as it used to be when I first moved to the central coast from the Bay Area a decade ago... I keep wanting to try the Korean bbq because I have heard great things about it but I can't seem to pass up the sushi. I'll probably have to eat sushi for lunch and come back for dinner if I ever want to try the Korean bbq

Have not been here in a few years. Mainly because of my own experiences coming here. Always did take out and they would forget things or mess up my order and not until I would get home would I notice the error. This time we decided to eat inside at the sushi bar. Well for about 5 minutes nobody came over and the sushi chef actually asked us if we were ready to order before anyone came to ask us what we wanted drink. When a lady did come to ask she was super friendly. I think she was probably swamped with work. When the rolls finally came I realized there was no wazabe or ginger. I asked the chef if they gave that out here and he was surprised that we had not received them yet. We did have to change our drink order since the keg was out, but not a huge deal for us and it happens so that really had not effect on my rating. I decided i will probably not come here for another few years unless I want Korean bbq which I believe all the tables had the ground grills for it. So that would be pretty cool.

I never give reviews and I would consider myself a really reasonable person. Even if a place isn 't great, oh well. But this was a weird situation: The food was excellent, but the service was horrible. I went there on a Saturday with my mom and when we walked in, it took them quite a while to even acknowledge us and take us to a table. 3 servers saw us, walked by, and didn 't even say Someone will be with you in a moment. It was like we were invisible. Then, once seated, it took a super long time to even put our drink order in. My mom asked one of the servers if we could order, she said Yeah, one sec. But she said it in a way like we were bothering her, no smile, no apology for the wait. Finally a server brought us water and we ordered. Maybe they were short staffed? But if so, at least acknowledge a customer and apologize for the wait. They treated us like an inconvenience for wanting to eat at their restaurant.

This spot is modern, attractive and somehow cozy, with a terrific,friendly and attentive staff. The menu is large and satisfying, whether sushi or BBQ. Always a delight. Prices are moderate. A great lunch or night out for dinner. You will go back.

This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise! A coworker and I went for a late lunch around 2:30 and were served a delicious meal for a reasonable price!
