Saburo, or Sabu Chan, is a beautiful dog who loves to be pet and is not shy about using his sweetness to get a treat (with permission, of course). The owner is incredibly friendly and creates a fantastic dining experience. My friend and I were able to make a reservation with no issues, despite needing to do so in advance. The owner even responded to our messages in English. Even though we don't speak Japanese, we had no trouble communicating and booking. Everyone should visit this lovely place and meet the charming owner and Sabu Chan.
My partner and I decided to visit this restaurant after hearing great things about it, and I am so glad we did! Following the recommendation from Happy Cow, we reached out to Hisami via Facebook in English to make a reservation for the Nabana lunch two days in advance, and received a prompt response. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Hisami and her adorable 13-year-old dog Saburo, and welcomed into the cozy and charming restaurant located on a small street not far from the railway station. The food we were served was delicious, thoughtful, and made from homemade ingredients. Hisami even showed us the shoyu they make with the help of their neighbor and a local builder. We enjoyed a lovely coffee and dessert, had a peek at a beautiful homemade kimono, and engaged in pleasant conversation with Hisami. Saburo, or Sabu as she affectionately calls him, received plenty of pats and even enjoyed a few pieces of donut made from tofu, which Hisami assured us was okay for him to eat. Many thanks to Hisami for her warm hospitality and for sharing her wonderful products and fantastic meals with us. We look forward to visiting again in the future.
We had a wonderful dining experience here. Hisami was incredibly friendly and lovely, preparing a delicious lunch for us and even showing us some of the ingredients she used. She also taught us about the process of making her own shoyu, taking us outside to where it was produced. Another highlight was meeting and sharing a donut with Saburo, the sweet older dog owned by the restaurant. Making a reservation was very easy, as we were able to contact Hisami through Facebook.
