The Congee - Alhambra

I have been a customer of this establishment for many years since it opened. Their food quality was very good. The wanton, beef stew, lo mein and preserved egg pork porridge were among our favorites. Whether take out or dine in we went for was never disappointing.I bought take out today. To my surprise, the wanton is no longer as good as used to. The shrimp and pork in it are dry and tasteless when it should be smooth, crunchy and full with flavor. The lye that makes the noodle Al dente overwhelmed my mouth with an unpleasant taste. The ingredients quality as seemed are no longer as good and fresh as they sed to be. I don't want to speculate why it is. But I no longer have the mood and urge to go back again. For the price I paid, it no longer is worth it.

I’ve ordered :1- two items lo mien (on the menu $13.25)1-wonton noodle soup (menu price $12.90)1-house special fish balls (menu price $10.25)1-herbal tea (menu price $2.75)They charged me more than the amount on the menu.Before I posted this, I double checked the menu photos that other customers posted last month and I took screenshot on it.I don’t know why they charged me more of the pricelist menu?! If there is an increase on the price, they should let the customer know before ordering.

No signage in English so we guessed we were at the right place. Small mom and pop restaurant with a few tables. We ordered the thousand year egg congee. It had plenty of shredded pork and diced 1000 year egg. Great flavor. The wonton soup had big shrimp dumplings, good size bowl. The golden shrimp noodle tasted dry until we realized the noodles were to be put in the bowl of broth that they brought on the side; no explanation, we had to figure it out. Service was quick but not much conversation. If you want congee, don't go close to closing time. They sell out.

Always happy with the food they serve. Simple menu but everything is delicious and flavorful. No added frills, just authentic flavors. Staff are quick to serve your food steaming hot. Yummy.Food: 5/5
