Ramparts - Alexandria

My wife and I reserved dinner for Valentine's Day recently in Ramparts and we had a great evening. This is the first time we ate in this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. It is an older restaurant with a small front lobby that practically spills into the dining area. We sat at the bar while we waited for our table as he was away from the main door to protect us from the noise, foot traffic and the cool design of the door. We had such a great time talking to the bartender that we stayed at the bar for our dinner. The special selection of Valentine was excellent (4 courses) and the spirits were equally pleasant and affordable. The waiting staff was friendly, fast and friendly. The only potential thing was the small waiting area while you waited for your table and parking is a challenge. We found that Burke Herbert Bank on the other side of the street allows the restaurants to park in their crowd after regular working hours. I wish we knew before we came. OpenTable should add this to the Ramparts’ narrative on its website.

As usual, food, drinks and service were excellent, in general, as well as an overall excellent value. Tonight there was an additional plus. A member of our party there were two of us allergic to citrus fruits. To order a dish containing a citrus-based sauce, we asked the waiter to prepare the dish without the sauce. When the court arrived, it looked like it was sitting the sauce. The waiter noticed the mistake and asked if we would rather have withdrawn the court. We pointed out that it was not a question of taste, but an allergy we had forgotten earlier. The waiter was very apologetic was sad that he had not realized that an allergy was involved. After we found out that the dish routinely contained a citrus component, we ordered another dish that was (1) excellent, (2) served faster than usual, and (3) delivered by the waiter with his apologies and served a free refill of the cocktail before the guest with allergies.

Wonderful evening. Great meal. And this bartender, Buster, is just phenomenal!

Service and food were excellent, as always. They have a great tap list as well! We make sure to come in for their monthly specials, which are always amazing!

Great food at a good price, and very nice service staff. We’re lucky this is our neighborhood pub!
