Customers must order and pay for meals first, then taken to a table (even if none are suitable or large enough for the group of diners, one of which had a pram) We asked if we could have a half size meal for a toddler (their special fried rice) This was adamantly refused. After we had ordered and paid for our meals the staff couldn't tell us where to sit so we found a table outside and then later when the staff were trying to bring our meals to us gave us a lecture in how we shouldn't be sitting where we were. I remember this place to have authentic flavoursome food and I went back to try their laksa which had always been my favourite. Not this time. I will try other Chinatown places next time. I don't mind crazy staff if the food is to die for but this was very average.
I had the laksa and my wife had the char kway teow. Both dishes were excellent! We were really disappointed with dumpling king and braved another cheap eat in Chinatown. glad we did! Don't be fooled by the non Asians eating there! The food is great and definitely worth a try
Have been going here for the laksa soup for a long time - it's always the same and delicious, I've tried the chicken rice from here a couple of times and was not impressed. Quiet dry and rice is a bit stodgy. But the LAKSA is amazing. Do the laksa (check out Kopi Tim for Chicken Rice)
I might be asking for too much if I expect the exact same taste and texture for food served in an overseas Asian eatery but with chicken rice being the Singaporean national dish, I do expect a minimum standard. The chicken was slightly dry in texture and it came without the skin. The rice was also too bland for my liking. However, the chilli was fine. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that the other food might taste pretty good but the chicken rice struck the wrong chord with me. Overall, do give this restaurant a chance but just avoid the chicken rice until it has been improved.
Excellent eating cafe for those wanting a quick but tasty lunch. Prompt service. Order and wait to be seated. The Laksa soup is yummy.
